Making a big change from permed to natural hair...?

I have decided to take the big leap and go natural. Although I still have my permed ends, I was wondering if flat ironing my hair would damage it a lot if I did it once every two weeks. I really do think that people with NEAT natural hair are beautiful..the thing is, how do I grow out my natural hair in a "neat" way? I remember the last time I had tried to go natural for 6 months but it had got too hard to manage! Are their any easy and healthy ways to manage natural hair? If there are any books, websites, or people that can help me, dont be afraid to let me know. Thanks!

You can flat iron your hair while your transitioning so it's uniform, you have to be sure not to use too much heat, a ceramic straightener works the best since you don't have to use very much product to keep it silky, or you can do a roller set. You can do other things like wear transitioning styles like twist outs, straw sets or buns.

Girl, DO NOT flat iron your new growth!! That will only ruin and damage the hair you are actually trying to grow.

What has worked best for me (I've been transitioning for the last 5 months) have been the roller sets. I've been using small perm rollers with a setting lotion (lottabody) and drying for about an hour.

After the hair is dry, I take out the rollers, add some olive oil sheen spray and break up the curls and style with my fingers. I wear a satin cap a night and I can usually wear the same do for over a week. Looks great too.
