do not use a small barrel curling iron (use medium or large). I hold the curling iron parallel with my head. That is, straight up next to my head when I curl. I twist some with the curl going backward in the iron, and when holding it parallel, it gives it that spiral curl. Some I curl forward in the same fashion. So they are not all in the same direction, it gives a natural look. You can use your fingers to style if you need to, but no comb or brush. I spray it lightly and right after spraying one side, I tilt my head and cup my hand at the bottom of my hair and gently push up to give the curls a boost and volume.
