I am an African American female and when I was little I use to run around with a towel on my head pretending I had long, blond hair. I didn't understand it then I just wanted to be pretty like the women on T.V. Now, I understand that on T. V. you see a standard of what someone else says is beautiful. It's also in magazines and such but as a child everything and anything "white" was beautiful. Now my hair is blond but natural. White people taught me to love my hair, my skin, and what ever else came with my race. They loved that I can do things they couldn't or that I never worried about being too pale. Long, straight hair is still the norm of beauty in our culture but as we African Americans learn to love ourselves, see ourselves represented in a positive light on T. V. and in magazines I think you will see a difference but until then there are a lot of grown women who still are running around with towels on their heads. Wearing Weave, I might add, did show me a little of what white women deal with and helped me love my natural curly hair. They pay big bucks to get what I have naturally and long hair can be hot and heavy. That was an awesome question. Have a blessed day!

Because people are stupid. I'm apart of a family with woman who have naturally long hair. Its not a big deal. It's unfortunate that to much emphasis is placed on things that are not important. long, short who cares. Your hair doesn't make you.

I am not going to lie but you tend to see really long hair in other races more than the black race; there were like less than 10 Hispanic females at my school and most of them had longer hair than all the black girls in my school LOL

Because people have misconceptions that African American females only have short hair when that is not the case. I think it is stupid and shallow to view someone solely on their hair. I hate it when you are black and you have naturally long hair people need to ask if it is yours or not.
